Cultural Creative Spaces & Cities: Policy Analysis and Recommendations

‘Policy Analysis and Recommendations’ has laid the ground for a new vision on decision-making, one that takes culture as the foundation, inclusiveness and a better quality of life for all citizens. The Analysis brings together the outputs and the outcomes of the CCSC project, and shares the key learnings from the project partners. The Recommendations, based on these core principles, are made for the EU for the support and recognition of commons at the local and EU level. They advocate for the use of the commons as a policy framework that can reinforce the much-needed connection between the local and EU level.

Towards a multi-level strategy for EU external cultural relations : bringing cities on board

The EU strategy for international cultural relations sets out to move beyond an understanding of cultural diplomacy as soft power and towards a more inclusive and reciprocal approach built around “a new spirit of dialogue, mutual listening and learning, joint capacity-building and global solidarity”. To be fully effective, this strategy needs to involve all levels of governance, in particular cities. This policy paper aims to demonstrate the potential of European cities for achieving the objectives of the EU strategy for international cultural relations by proposing a revised multilevel approach. By Hannah Abdullah, CIDOB (Barcelona Centre for International Affairs) and Jeremie Molho, European University Institute & National University of Singapore.

Gender Equality: Gender Balance in the Cultural and Creative Sectors

The present Brainstorming Report is the result of the discussion presented to the European Commission at a Dialogue Meeting on the 6th of November 2019 in Brussels. The first topic in the 2019 – 2021 round of ‘Voices of Culture’ was about improving gender balance in the cultural and creative sectors. “Voices of Culture” did give the people most directly working in the sector, a voice to be heard and the opportunity to give their input on this issue.
